Born and raised in New York City,
Composer/Pianist Daryl Johnson studied music at Five Towns College in Long Island and Old Westbury University under the tutelage of such jazz greats as multi-reedist Makanda Ken Mcintyre,  percussionist Warren Smith, and Trombonist Dick Griffin to name a few.
Daryl also studied at Harlem's famed Jazz Mobile where had the pleasure of learning from jazz pianist Ronnie Matthews, Amina Claudine-Myers, Norman Simmons and Dennis Moorman.

"Entrapping, calmly-incendiary, luring, provocative-these are only a few ways to describe Daryl Johnson's boon to the jazz realm. His latest album release From The Inside is forty-six minutes of tranquil, yet massively intense jazz; this album is fulminating with artistic invention" The album From The Inside proves that Daryl Johnson certainly has impeccable feel. From top to bottom, From The Inside is unique and intriguing. Daryl Johnson is a force to be reckoned with.
--Joshua Musselwhite, Jazz Improv magazine, Sept, 2004

"From The Inside has Daryl Johnson displaying a great deal of potential. Since it was recorded a few years ago, an encore is long overdue. --Scott Yanow, Jazz Critic

"Every solo indeed has been taken from the moment that they were recorded, making Johnson succeed on what he was after. The non-repetitive and constantly changing natures of the tracks prove that these were started from scratch and finished when he pressed the stop button .During these stressful times beclouded of politics and pandemic, this album is an opportunity to get lost in your head—forgetting what's behind and what's coming".
