My latest CD “In The Moment” is a collection of improvised solo piano pieces, all done over the course of 8 days during the now historical Corona Virus pandemic. Every piece was done in one take with no overdubs and totally improvised, meaning I had no idea what I would play, I just hit record and played whatever my ears and skills allowed me to, I was truly in the moment. What makes this CD so special to me is that I had not planned to record this way. My initial idea was to do a solo piano CD of cover tunes which I had been preparing, so I hit record to get a soundcheck to make sure the levels were correct and I began to play randomly with no musical intent, just doodling if you will, and when I was done and listened back I was very pleased with what I had played and consequently the fourth track of this CD was born. It was on the strength of that improvisation that my curiosity kicked in, why not do a whole CD of totally improvised music, much in the same way some of my piano heros before have done. I had always been inspired by great jazz improvisers like Paul Bley, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, and by watching and listening to these masters of the piano, it gave me the confidence that a totally improvised CD at this stage of my career was possible. I dedicate this CD to all those across the globe affected directly and indirectly by the Corona Virus pandemic.
Peace & Blessings
